В качестве dataProvider'a при работе с XML лучше всего использовать XMLListCollection или HierarhialData в зависимости от компонента, они гарантируют нормальную сортировку. А вы судя по всему используете обычный XMLList

А разве dataProvider использует обычный XMLList? Из хелпа:
